Buckwheat is a fast-growing warm-season broadleaf used for summer cover cropping, pollinator support, and soil improvement. It establishes in as little as 3-4 days and flowers within 3-4 weeks of planting, providing a rapid nectar source for bees and beneficial insects. Buckwheat suppresses weeds effectively and improves soil phosphorus availability. It winter-kills in most climates, making it easy to terminate. Multiple successions can be planted throughout summer. Terminate by tilling under before seed set if using as green manure.
